Victory in Europe Day, generally known as VE Day, is a day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces on Tuesday, 8 May 1945, marking the end of World War II in Europe.
VE Day 2020, the 75th anniversary, has sadly fallen in a year in which there is the COVID-19 pandemic. With the current government rules and regulations stipulating social distancing of a minimum of 2 meters, it was not possible to have get togethers or street parties. However not to miss celebrating the occasion many people throughout Britain have come on the streets with other ways of celebrating whilst social distancing of course.
On a street in a Carmarthenshire town many of us were drawn on to the street by the sound of bagpipes. For half an hour or so many of us were entertained in the afternoon sunshine to the sounds of many well known tunes and anthems.
It put a smile on many of the faces of the street's inhabitants and was greatly enjoyed by all.
Thank you Ben for bringing joy to us during these difficult days.
